Crystal Palace thump West Ham 5-2 at Selhurst Park
Eagles soar to victory
Crystal Palace secured a fine 5-2 victory over West Ham United at Selhurst Park on what was a momentous day for the Eagles.
Bright start for the Eagles
Palace started the game brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Wilfried Zaha converted a penalty. The Eagles then doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Christian Benteke headed home from a corner. West Ham pulled a goal back in the 35th minute through Michail Antonio, but Palace restored their two-goal lead just before half-time when Andros Townsend scored a fine goal.
West Ham came out fighting in the second half and pulled another goal back in the 55th minute through Jarrod Bowen. However, Palace were not to be denied and they sealed the victory in the 65th minute when Zaha scored his second goal of the game. Substitute Jordan Ayew then added a fifth for Palace in the 80th minute.
The victory was Palace's fourth in a row and it moved them up to 12th in the Premier League table. West Ham, meanwhile, remain in 16th place.
